Municipal Officials Leadership Institute (MOLI) & Certified Municipal Official (CMO) Designation

The Municipal League’s Municipal Officials Leadership Institute (MOLI) provides municipal leaders with the knowledge and tools for effective leadership. The MOLI program encourages continuing education, promotes excellence in local governance, and recognizes local elected officials who successfully complete the program.

The MOLI program consists of a two-part series (Level I and Level II) and covers topics such as:

  • Forms of municipal government
  • Municipal revenue sources and tax policy
  • Open Meetings Act
  • Parliamentary procedure
  • Audit Act compliance
  • Effective social media use
  • Risk management

Participants who complete Level I and Level II of the program and earn required elective credit receive the distinguished designation of Certified Municipal Official (CMO). See more details about CMO requirements on this page.

MOLI programs are typically held twice per year. More information coming soon about upcoming MOLI dates.

Note: As of 2023, the League has updated its MOLI programming and CMO requirements. All CMO designations received prior to 2023 remain valid.
