See what our members are saying about our Loss Control Team!
The City of Elephant Butte has recently been participating in the in-person trainings offered by the New Mexico Municipal League/Self Insurers Fund. The first set of training we took part in was on Workplace Violence/Bullying and Sexual Harassment. Being a small municipality, we greatly enjoyed the in-person training on these subjects; it brought the whole staff together. We have our next training session scheduled, which will cover Customer Service and Interoffice Communications. The NMML/NMSIF is great at answering our questions and getting us the training best suited for our needs. The City of Elephant Butte thanks you for all the assistance, guidance, and knowledge that you have provided over the years!
City Clerk, Elephant Butte
As the Health and Safety Coordinator for the Village of Ruidoso, I can always count on the New Mexico Municipal League NMSIF to consistently provide courteous and professional services. Their team is very knowledgeable and is always available to answer any questions that may arise. Their instructors are outstanding and always get positive feedback from our employees.

The NMSIF Loss Control department has always done a great job; they take the time to build our training schedule for the whole year, which is important and convenient. As the safety coordinator, having the training schedule for the entire year readily available is a helpful resource to communicate with our team of supervisors and employees as needed. The instructors are great at what they do; they are knowledgeable, interactive, and they take their time to help employees on a one-on-one basis. They have assisted with their training in providing a safety culture that is being practiced and followed, resulting in a reduction of accidents, injuries, and Tort Claims.

Thanks to the quality and relevance of the safety training provided by your training team, we have seen a noticeable improvement in employee awareness and behavior related to safety practices. The training topics have helped our staff better understand potential hazards and implement safer work habits across all departments. Your commitment to fostering a culture of safety has made a huge impact on our operations. We are grateful for the resources and guidance you provide, and we look forward to continuing this successful partnership.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for the comprehensive CPR and First Aid training provided through your programs to the Village of Milan. The skills I learned through this training recently played a critical role in helping me respond to a medical emergency.
Earlier this year, while working in the computer lab, a customer and her caregiver came in to use the computers. After about an hour, I observed the caregiver expressing concern as her client stood up, appearing disoriented and unstable. As I watched her begin to lose her balance, I quickly reacted—jumping over my desk to assist. I noticed her eyes rolling back, and, recognizing the signs of a potential seizure from my training, I immediately asked for permission to administer first aid.
With the caregiver’s assistance, we safely lowered the client to the floor and positioned her in the recovery position to prevent injury and maintain an open airway. I instructed the caregiver to call 911 while I monitored the individual’s breathing and responsiveness, ensuring she did not asphyxiate during the seizure. After about a minute, her eyes returned to normal, and she began to regain consciousness, though she remained weak and lethargic.
Thanks to the training I received, I was able to stay calm, assess the situation, and take appropriate action without panic. Emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter, administered oxygen, and transported the individual to the hospital. I was relieved to learn she made a full recovery and was grateful for the care provided.
This experience reaffirmed the importance of proper first aid training and gave me great confidence in my ability to act under pressure. I recently renewed my certification and look forward to continuing this essential training.
Thank you once again for the invaluable skills you’ve helped me develop.

The Village of Los Ranchos reached out to the NMSIF for several trainings for staff: OSHA 10, Sexual Harassment Prevention and Workplace Bullying and Violence. Erica and Jimmy provided exceptional training, training guides, and opportunities to engage in dialogue. The training was thorough and well needed. I will be scheduling additional classes in the near future to ensure our staff is provided with the tools necessary to be successful in all that they do to serve internal and external customers.

Erica Olguin and her team in Loss Control are very professional and efficient in providing safety training that pertains to our employees’ specific needs. They sincerely care about the safety of employees. I was impressed last year after the devasting fires and flooding in our area, someone from Loss Control just “dropped by to see if there was anything we needed”. Beyond their professional expertise, Erica and her team are easy to communicate with and are prompt to respond to any questions that we have. They are a valuable asset to the City of Ruidoso Downs!
